“Ugliest” Dog In The World Teaches Humans The True Meaning Of Beauty – BarkPost Dog News from around the Web

If “ugly” means “pawesome inspiration to all,” this is definitely the ugliest we’ve ever seen. Quasi Modo, a 10-year-old Pittie-Dutch Shepherd mix, was abandoned at a shelter in Palm Beach, Florida, where her spinal defect made her stand out. Thankfully, veterinarian Dr. Virginia Sayre saw something truly special in the hunchbacked dog and took her home.

This year, Quasi competed in the “Ugliest Dog In The World” contest in California, where pups with unconventional looks strutted their stuff and shared their stories in hopes of winning a $1,500 prize and bragging rights.

In her pageant biography, Quasi and her owner say, “My appearance can be a little unsettling to some (I have had grown men jump on top of their cars to get away from me because they thought I was a hyena or Tasmanian devil) but once they get to know me I win them over with my bubbly personality.”

Dr. Sayre says Quasi gets along with everyone, and she has even become an “ambassador for teaching people about acceptance and tolerance for things that are different,” according to her pageant biography.

Born in Montreal Canada, I convinced my human to move all the way to sunny California, not only because my paws were freezing in the winter, but because I always knew I can reach a larger community here, in dog-friendly Los Angeles.

  1. $1500 doesn’t sound like enough to me! I’ve also had people run away and think I was a giant rat. I guess Quasi-Modo is OK with this, she probably doesn’t really care but humans thinks it’s appropriate to throw an emotional pity party It’s just weird to me that we don’t point out the ugliest human in the world. But if we do it should be judged on behavior and not on looks. And not be rewarded money but pay a fine for it and fix the mess they caused.

    • You’re right, I think us dogs don’t judge based on appearance but on the healthy vibes a creature gives out. But sometimes if you’re not healthy you don’t look so good. They aren’t really honoring Quasi but patting themselves on the back for ”rescuing” her and learning ”about acceptance and tolerance for things that are different”. Which is a wonderful thing…So what does she need the title ”ugliest dog in the world” for? Whatever, I guess it was all in good intention. I wonder what she’s gonna do with her cash. I would invest in a taco truck.
